1) A story with which to scare little Mexican children.

2) If said correctly, like a spooky tone, it scares the shizz outta you!

3) Basically the Mexican Boogeyman/the fucking scariest thing on the face of the earth.

1)"Si no te calmas, el Cu-Cuy te va ha agarrar!"----translation----"If you don't behave, the Cu-Cuy will get you!"

2)"El Cuuuuuu-Cuuyyyyyyyyyyy!"

3) Say this in the dark with a bunch of Mexicans (mostly kids) and they WILL start to cry.

cucuy 

EL Cucuy is a Mexican urban legend. Legend says it that once upon a time a father was really angry at his kids for misbehaving. As a matter of punishment, he decided to lock his kids in his closet to learn their lesson. After a while, he decided to go to town and run some errands but he forgot to take his kids out of the closet. When he came back from the town he saw that his barn and his house caught on fire which killed the kids and the father was cursed. In disbelief, he decided to look for his kids in many closets. It has been years from look for his kids and started growing an appetite for them. Now he hunts kids and hides in closets at night waiting for the right moment to pounce.

Or the definition is A Mexican legend often used for misbehaved children saying that he will get them at night if they don't behave. Also, legend has it that whoever hears the true legend will catch a glimpse of him at night, SLEEP WELL.

EL Cucuy te va llevar al bosque y comerte si no te comportas.
The Cucuy will take you to the forest and eat you if you don't behave.

cucuybird 

The 3rd (pre-adolescent) stage of development in the life cycle of the cucuy. A winged, hummingbird-sized alien being found exclusively in the forests of central New Mexico, USA. The cucuybird feeds on insects as it gains strength before growing into the chupacabra, or adolescent-phase cucuy. When feeding, the cucuybird emits a high-pitched chirping sound much similar to sky-cars on the popular 80's children's cartoon, "The Jetsons". El Cucuy 

El Cucuy is a monster that steals and harms children that are trouble makers or that disobey their parents. Although known as a myth, many hispanic parents use the phrase, "Te va llevar el Cucuy" or "The Cucuy is going to take you" to scare their kids into behaving or into staying where they told them to stay.

El Cucuy es un monstro que roba y hace daño a los hijos desobedientes y traviesos. Aunque el Cucuy es conocido como una mytha, los padres latinoamericanos o hispanos usan el frase, "Te va llevar el Cucu si no quedes hayi" o "Si no vas a hacer caso, te va llevar el Cucuy y yo no te voy a ayudar cuando te lleva".

Hijo - "Ma, yo no quiero ir a misa! Si me tratas de llevar a fuerzas, voy a correr a mi cuarto y voy a poner el seguro en la puerta para que no entres!"
Madre - "Pues ya vete a tu cuarto para que te agarra el Cucuy!"

~ La madre sale de la casa dejando todo pagado. Prende el carro y dice "Bye! Te va llevar el Cucuy!"~

~El hijo sale corriendo de la casa diciendo "Esperate! Yo voy!"~

Son - "Mom, I don't want to go to mass! If you try to make me, I'm gonna run into my room and lock the door so you can't get in!"
Mom - "Well go to your room already so el Cucuy can get you!"

~The mom turns off everything and leaves. She starts the car and says, "Bye! El Cucuy is gonna get you!"~

~The son runs out of the house yelling, "Wait! I'm gonna go!" ~

"El cucuy" is about the equivelant to the boogie man, but is much scarier. Contrary to what people believe its not just the MEXICAN boogieman, many different Spanish speaking countries tell stories about the Cucuy. Some say that the Cucuy lives in the closet.
