screever

An English term for pavement artist, chalk artist, street painter, also known as a sidewalk artist in the US, or madonarri in Italy. A busking artist who creates original or reproduction artworks, typically for public donations.
"Today I'm a screever, and as you can see, a screever's an artist of 'ighest degree" - sings Bert in Mary Poppins, in the song Chim-chimeny.

The word is also used in George Orwell's "Down and out in London and Paris", and can be found in some older English dictionaries.

Screener Season

Christmas for BitTorrent users.

Screener season takes place in early January to mid-February when special DVD copies of movies being considered for awards like the Oscars are sent out to voters.

These movies are usually still in theaters / cinemas at the time so the only other pirated copies around are poor quality cams.

Inevitably, these special copies find their way onto popular BitTorrent sites like Pirate Bay.

You can tell it's a screener because there's a watermark that pops up every so often saying "For Your Consideration".
Jim: Do you guys want to go see Django at the movie theatre on Thursday?

Dave: It's screener season next week dude, I can just hook my laptop up to the TV.

Jim: Oh sweet.

screener

A pre vhs tape, sent to rental stores, and various other places for promotional use. A screener is supplied on a vhs tape, and is usually in a 4:3 (fullscreen) a/r, although letterboxed screeners are sometimes found. The main draw back is a "ticker" (a message that scrolls past at the bottom of the screen, with the copyright and anti-copy telephone number). Also, if the tape contains any serial numbers, or any other markings that could lead to the source of the tape, these will have to be blocked, usually with a black mark over the section. This is sometimes only for a few seconds, but unfortunately on some copies this will last for the entire film, and some can be quite big. Depending on the equipment used, screener quality can range from excellent if done from a MASTER copy, to very poor if done on an old VHS recorder thru poor capture equipment on a copied tape. Most screeners are transferred to VCD, but a few attempts at SVCD have occured, some looking better than others.
