mannerly addendum

An "afterthought" phrase that someone throws in at the end of a sentence to modify it into a more-polite statement.
A classic mannerly addendum is when someone hastily asks you to perform a certain task as he is rushing out the door, then pleasantly adds, "Please and thank you" after he's voiced his request.
