A variation on "haha" or "lol". Began due to the Blackberry Pearl's habit of auto-correcting "haha" to "gags". Endlessly flexible: just "gags" to equate with "lol", "gagsgagsgagsgagsgagsgagsgags" if something is ridiculously funny or "gags^n", like "gags^infinity".
