Fandomite

a fandomite is a person or being who has grown to an unhealthy obsession for a piece of media, as a result of negligent, extensive exposure to fandom communities that support and normalize fandomite tendency. Fandomites oftentimes develop typing quirks, ship characters unnecessarily or in problematic ways, decorate their Discord profile to such an unnecessary degree, develop a generic 'silly' personality, begin using tonetags, and overall become what a would be 'cringeworthy' person.

A fandomite is someone fully engrossed in Fandom culture, to the point of considering their fandom activities "activism"; very often disregarding actual problems even in their own fandom communities, and prioritizing their comfort and fun before anything else.

Classic examples of fandomite behaviour is rampant homonationalism; silencing others based on 'fandom etiquette' or similar reasons when their community is criticised for one reason or another; finding their entertainment activities inherently morally correct, solely on the basis of it being fandom content; protecting any kind of content on the name of 'freedom of speech', no matter if it is hateful or not; among others.

"They are such a fandomite. I said I didn't like AO3 and they said I wasn't grateful for the gift it is upon mankind, and surely I do not remember how trying the times before it existed were for them, fandom elders. When I told them I didn't like it because of it allowing racist and other hateful content in it, they said I am against freedom of speech."

A terminally online person who has slavishly dedicated their life to one or more fandoms in order to maintain human connections. Never misses a change to start pointless arguments they will never admit defeat on. A step above LARPers, as they are genuinely fans of the works, but are often a bigger fan of the fandom culture itself. Generally teenagers, although many specimens have been found well into their twenties. Closely tied to puriteens and shippers. Has spent so much time online, half of what they say will have you digging deep on this very website.

"Dude, did you see Felix's Twitter? All he's posted for the last few months are poorly made memes and he's always arguing with random kids, I think he might be a fandomite..."

Fandomite

Someone who has become so obsessed with fandom culture that they forget to focus on meaningfully engaging with the subject of their fandom, or never had any intention to.

Their main objective is to be "in a fandom", rather than to be enriched by the subject of the fandom. The subject of their fandom exists only as raw material for fan-fiction, tiktok edits, cosplay meetups and social media discourse. They believe that approaching all popular culture with a fandom mindset is the best, and are confused why anyone else would disagree. They only pick new interests based on the potential for fandom activity. They assume that artists create their work with the main intention of creating a fandom, and expect the artist to be a community manager for the fandom. Many fandomites believe they do not have to directly engage with the subject of their fandom, they only need to know enough details to engage in fandom activity. Driven by Fisheresque libidinal FOMO, they have to be in the know about the Current Thing. Very likely to make their fandom a part of their identity.
