The act of claiming you'll do something well, but then being physically or metaphorically knocked down.

The phrase comes from the 2017 motion picture Dunkirk, directed by Christopher Nolan, which featured a character called George, who, despite claiming he would be 'useful', was kicked down a staircase and SPOILERS later died.
"Mickey said he could scale the wall, but then he got completely Dunkirked"

The best WW2 movie ever (in my opinion). Directed by Christopher Nolan and starring many handsome British men like 1D boy Harry Styles, Fionn Whitehead, Cillian Murphy, Jack Lowden and Tom Hardy, this movie depicts the evacuation of British troops from Dunkirk in France from May-June 1940.
Nolan's 'Dunkirk' is the best WW2 movie ever.
My gosh, the 'Dunkirk' boys are so cute!

A terdhole of a town in Western New York. The War of 1812 apparently started there and legend has it that Mark Twain had residence near by.

The weather is mostly crappy and the sky is usually gray. If you are popular you usually hold at least 5 memberships to local clubs and are definitely an alcoholic.

Bart's Cove is the hot spot. Niagara Mohawk aka NRG Energy makes the harbor look like crap and Purina stinks up the place.

Dunkirk Dave is the stupid ground hog and no matter what he says there is always 6 more weeks of winter.

People get stabbed at the Fillmore and everyone gets their weed from that nigga on 2nd street. The population is very diverse with a large minority crowd mostly consisting of Puerto Ricans.

Most of the younger generation think they are real hard inner city kids but most of the town has never made it past Buffalo and people only take vacations in Florida because they all think it's the greatest place on earth. But really Florida is just a big hot Dunkirk.
Guy 1 - Where are you from?

Guy 2 - Buffalo.

Guy 1 - Well actually I'm from Dunkirk, but you never heard of it.

Back when I lived in upstate new york

A meaningless, unimpressive, self-serving introduction. An indicator that the story about to be shared will be pointless and dumb.
Back when I lived in upstate new york, I also had to park on the street - on two occasions, we got enough snow, mixed with just the right plowing, that my car was lifted off the ground from so much snow being jammed underneath it.

Sister: This meeting was to discuss the rough draft of my essay, where we discussed the subsidiary questions I added in my rough draft. We also discussed the relationship between my main title and the real-life situations I chose to use in my essay. We discussed the structure of my essay as well, specifically the Math AOK section and how it relates to the contradiction of the title. This second meeting was particularly helpful in discussing the implications of my essay claims and how to apply the title across various areas of knowledge. There were many sections of the essay that could have been cut down in wordiness and the ways of knowing required further and more in-depth analysis.
