fear of a outer suburban areas that compels
one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous. A sufferer
will go to great lengths to avoid the outer
suburbs, typically disproportional to the actual danger posed, often being recognized as irrational. In the event the suburbs cannot be avoided entirely, the sufferer will endure the suburbs with marked distress and significant interference in social or occupational activities.
Burbaphobia typically results from a
