Scape and Run Syndrome

A lethal, positive feedback loop in game design, in which difficulty creep is met with community criticism, which the developers deflect as a skill issue, leading to an exponential doubling-down on difficulty until a previously entertaining game devolves to the point of being too punishing to enjoy.

"So let me get this straight. They doubled Scavengers' attack damage and TRIPLED their spawn rate? Does anyone even play the bug front anymore?"

"Not many. It used to be great, but the devs got Scape and Run Syndrome. They got it bad."

run of shame

the "run of shame" comes from the walk of shame but means something quite diffrent.

the run of shame is where the shame is so apparrent the solition entails running. this can happen in a number of diffrent ways. foot ball is a good example

You are innocently walking through the park and a nearby game a football is in motion and the ball flies in your general direction. You have a choice.
a. ignore the ball
b. kick the ball back trying to look as talented as possible

c. try and stop the ball and carefully pass it back trying not to look to silly.
You choose option b, you attempt to smash the ball as hard as one can to reach the football game eagerly awaiting the return of there ball. you fail you miss hit the ball spectacularly falling over and the ball goes even future away from the football game, you possibly break or deflate the ball in the process, lose the ball, or simply look bad at football in front of lots of people. The shame caused by this is over whelming the only thing appropriate is to run hard after the miss hit ball and pray you don’t make the same mistake again. “The run of shame”
Example 2. You run, you shoot at goal, you miss and it goes miles past the keeper, without stopping you continue to retrieve the epic fail of a shot, hopefully getting the ball back will redeem the fail. This is the "run of shame"
Example 3 you kick the ball over an impassable obstacle (fence, lake, country border), before anyone can get cross with you for ruing the game you commence the “run of shame” knowing full well there is no getting the ball back.

Rune Scape

Rune scape is a highly addictive game that I myself have played and takes place in Old World Europe. The player controls an avatar who gains money, raises skills, fights monsters and other players.

I began playing in 2004 at the begging of my cousin when I was 12. All I remember is that i saw that every one was better and or had better stuff than me, and this drove me crazy for a year I spent doing nothing other than raising skills I remember waking up at 4 am and going to bed at3 because I was playing this game. I got to lvl 70 combat with 3 mill in assets. Then I got hacked and every thing taken I was so depressed I quit at the beginning of my freshman year in high school. However Late my junior year I was bored during thanksgiving break and I played again allot had changed, but it was still addictive as ever all I wanted to do was have the best Armour possible so I could show it off and feel good about myself, Which I did. Then I tried for a skill cape and I got halfway there when I realized WHAT THE FUCK AM I DOING! Im spending hours a day doing something I hide from my friends just so that other losers I don't know will praise me, So I stopped seriously playing. I still play sometimes but only if I am really bored and want to play a mini game or hunt someone down in pvp. I can honestly say once and for all I have kicked the addiction, and if you are like me I hope you can wake up and see what really matters and live your life not Jagex'es cause when your,e dead no one will remember your rune scape account.
