A term for autistic
people!
The term “autizzy” has been around for decades and has been used among autistics & their families since the early 90’s in suburbs within Minnesota, Colorado, & Illinois, if not in other states as well.
The term “autizzy” has been one of controversy between the years
2021-2022, after a a Black Autistic by the name of “theythemplural” on the social media platform,
TikTok, “coined” the term for only Black autistics to use after hearing it for the first time.
The term “autizzy” was certainly not created through the recent social media app,
TikTok, & was not considered a part of AAVE (African American Vernacular
English) until the last couple years,
2021-2022.
This coining by “theythemplural” of the term,“autizzy” on the social media platform,
TikTok, occurred during a time where being autistic became, for lack of a better phrase, trendy-causing a large portion of
people to hear certain terms such as “stimming” “special interest”, and “autizzy” for the first time.
Despite this, autistics & their communities in various suburbs in America have been referring to themselves & their loved ones as “autizzy” & making representative
T-shirts with the term on them for years.
The term “autizzy” is & has been for any autistic person to use since, at least, the 90’s.
“He’s a little autizzy”.
“The autizzy community”.
“We’re the autizzy
club!”
“Just a
bit autizzy”
“She has a lot of autizzy traits”.
“They’re just autizzy”.
“Can you put the
word “autizzy” on that?”.
