AKA
Delta P
A diver term for when a body of
water with high pressure moves into a body of
water with low pressure via a hole/pipe/opening between them, until the two bodies of
water become equal in pressure. This is a huge diving hazard, as you or one of your body part(s) could be sucked into the hole if you’re too close.
This type of event is often very unexpected, very sudden, and EXTREMELY hard to pull yourself or another person out of. To make matters worse, Delta P is practically invisible to the naked eye, the only way to know it’s there is by measuring
water pressure or if someone gets stuck.
If one (or multiple) of your body parts create a perfect seal (prevents the two waters from becoming equal in pressure) in the hole, and you
don’t have direct communications with at least SOMEONE on the surface, you are SCREWED.
