Although we should always honor our veterans, there is an obsessive fetish with bringing up vets on holidays or occasions that don't pertain to veterans. (e.g. Flag Day, Independence Day, Memorial Day...)
Veteran fetish, hence "vetish"

"I appreciate that he thanked me for my service on Memorial Day, but I didn't die in service to the country. He's got a serious vetish about holidays like this."
