Get the ungold mug.bad, originating from the fictional language Newspeak in George Orwell's novel "Nineteen Eighty-Four". Newspeak is closely based on English but has a greatly reduced and simplified vocabulary and grammar. This suited the totalitarian regime of the Party of "Ingsoc" (English Socialism), whose aim was to make subversive thought ("thoughtcrime") and speech impossible. Newspeak is engineered to remove even the possibility of rebellious thoughts—the words by which such thoughts might be articulated have been eliminated from the language. Newspeak contains no negative terms. For example, the only way to express the meaning of “bad” is through the word “ungood.”
