Word used in the novel "The Shining" by Stephen King and in the movie based on it and directed by Stanley Kubrick. "Murder" spelt backwards. Also works on many other levels, being suggestive of bloodshed, wrath, inebriation, violence, a force that consumes people's lives like some satisfying drink, and something used to subdue the Native American tribes that form a subtext of the film.

the state of feeling the effects of alcohol long after you have sobered up -- the purpose behind this is that sobering up, after a particularly heavy night of drinking, takes a lot out of the body, and creates something akin to a tired high -- this state is known as being redrunk.

red rug

What the famous red carpet actually is -- a rug rather than a carpet.

A carpet, by definition, is a permanent cloth floor covering; while a rug is a temporary floor covering which can be removed & replaced whenever desired.

So when they're "rolling out the red carpet" for the Oscars, they're actually rolling out the red rug because it is rolled back up & removed when the awards ceremony has finished.

The “Little Women” director and Baumbach, her partner — and the director of “Marriage Story” — arrived on the Oscars red rug with a whopping 12 nominations between them.
