On the hip 

A way to describe the amount of money in your wallet at a given time, usually used by cocky gamblers who have nothing in a bank account, but will sometimes have large amounts of cash in there wallet due to a rare win.

John: "How did you get on down the bookies?"

phil: "Great man, I left with 5000 on the hip"

Could mean calling someone on their cell phone, but could also mean calling someone's pager or two-way.

Most chicks have to call me at home, but I let her hit me on the hip.

hip on the ship 

The maritime version of "good in the hood". While asking someone onboard a ship, "All good in the hood?" would be understood, the word "hood" might be seen in some circles as mildly racist. Thus, the invention of "hip on the ship". Enjoy.

Bosun: "Good morning, Captain Michelle! All hip on the ship?"
Captain: "Yes, things are going very well."
