Any institution, e.g. university or think tank, that is well known for its intellectual rigor, mostly to the exclusion of social venues or aptitude.

I've decided to attend Johns Hopkins University, despite its reputation of being a nerdopolis.

Equal (or indefinitely opposite) to "Metropolis", but it is very urban all in all.
