The practice of granting
special privileges or bonuses only to high ranking members of an organization by another high ranking official(s). This is done at the exclusion and ultimately at the expense of
non ranking members. The term is obviously derived from complimentary mints placed on the pillows at upscale hotels for "honored" guests. These mints come from the aprons of the
low-paid hotel employees.
"Did you see the news? The school
board just pink-slipped over 200 teachers because of the economy. Then they turn around and gave the administrators a
15 percent pay raise! Talk about
pillow minting!"
