Officials fear a global pandemic of DOTCOM SYNDROME may result from ICANN's flood of new gTLD, generic Domain Name extensions, choices into the Internet's addressing system. An Internet domain name extension is the familiar .com, .net, or .org. There are 280 ccTLDs but only 22 "generics" in the domain name system right now in 2012 but that is about to all change in the near future.
