The dogcow is a drawing of a rather indiscriminate-looking animal (it looks mostly like a dog but is said to have the spots of a cow) that is used in the Apple Macintosh operating system (versions before OS X) to help tell users about their printing options. You can see the dogcow (in Mac OS 9.x or earlier) by going to the Finder, looking under "Page Setup...", and then looking under printer options. The dogcow is used to show you what kind of option you've selected. For example, "Flip Horizontal" flips the dogcow to upside down.

If you click on the dogcow, the Macintosh sends you the animal's characteristic cry of "Moof"! The dogcow icon was originally created by graphic artist Susan Kare in 1987. Susan is the same artist who created the graphic interface for everyone's favorite Windows 3.1 card game, Solitaire. Microsoft has adopted its own version of the dogcow and uses it to demonstrate slide transitions in its PowerPoint application, although Apple retains its copyright on the original image and, believe it or not, the "Moof"!
In Mac OS, click on the Dogcow and you will hear "Moof"!

dogtown and z-boys

One of the best skate documentaries ever made. It chronicles the events that took place in South Santa Monica, California in the mid-to-late 1970's in a ghetto area known as "Dogtown." A group of twelve young radicals bonded together to become one of the most influencial skate teams to this day. The group included skateboarding legends such as Tony Alva, Jay Adams, and Stacy Peralta.

The boys were sponsored by the Zephyr surf and skate shop located in the heart of Dogtown. The owners of shop (Skip Engblom, Jeff Ho, and Craig Stecyk) acted as mentors, coaches, and fellow "pirates", often letting the youths engage in illegal activity and often joining in on the fun.

The Z-Boys were primarily surfers, and they carried their surf style into their skating, prefering the low surf stance to the traditional straight-backed style. As the boys gathered interset in their new style, they also gathered fame which was accompanied by high paying offers from competing skate companies.

"Dogtown and Z-Boys" documents the rise and fall of the Zephyr Skate Team.

If you want to know the real side of the story behind "The Lords of Dogtown," watch this movie!
"Dogtown and Z-boys is such a great documentary- it sucks that they had to ruin it by making that crappy Hollywood version of the story (Lords of Dogtown)."

British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”

Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.

Pee Calculus

When you have to pee in a movie but don’t want to miss anything, and must do the following mental equation: will the amount I have to pee cause enough discomfort to diminish my attention capacity for the remainder of the movie to an extent which is greater than the amount of the movie I would miss by making a mad dash to the restroom.
I saw Satantango last night, wonderful film but by the 5th hour I had to start doing pee calculus.
