David Cronenberg

Probably the smartest film director alive. Made horror films in the 70s and then started making his unique "Cronenfilms" in the 80s. The formula is: show really fucked-up stuff in a really neutral way. Classic example: The scene in Videodrome where a guy grows a vagina-like stomach slit and then pokes around in it with a handgun while the camera just watches, like it's an instructional film ("What to do with Your New Organ"). The main rules of a Cronenfilm: Don't judge, just show. Don't make it exciting, just make it weird. But show what's really going on, even if it makes no sense. Best films: Scanners, Videodrome, The Fly, Crash, Naked Lunch, A History of Violence. Has been a huge influence on: horror movies (esp. the Ring movies) and sci-fi (esp. the Matrix movies). Best time to watch: drunk/high, or in a mood to think about weird shit. Worst time: when you're in the mood for action or romance.

croneage

Somewhat akin to old age, or a person in their golden years; but croneage has more pizazz. You are accepting of the wrinkles that have developed over the passing years with grace. Croney mingler refers to groups of people who gather in public areas and occupy space without an ostensible purpose. This term most often refers to people between the ages of 12 and 20, the unemployed and or trustees who coalesce in public places such as shopping centres, parks, or cafés. Crony mingling can also be quite prevalent in areas that have heavy tourist traffic, i.e., beach towns, ski towns or small historical towns where bored aimless locals are attracted by a continual influx of non-locals with whom they can interact for entertainment value. Often this interaction is one sided and involves incredulous looks, smirks and a palpable air of their own coolness that radiates around an approximate twenty foot radius of any given space where they stand. Crony minglers are generally harmless and if treated with caution and respect can often be quite helpful with information on where to acquire black market goods.

The croney minglers at the skate park flipped their emo haircuts and mumbled in contempt at the site of the lost tourist who asked them for directions.
