A senior advisor with the cunning and ruthlessness needed to defeat an enemy during times of open conflict. Unconstrained by the caution and deliberation called for during regular business order.

Consigliori
Most commonly pronounced "Coon-seal-ea-air-ee". Basically mean a councelor in Italian. Most commonly known from the Mafia as a high ranking Made Man. In the Mafia his job is to counsil and advise the boss, sometimes known in the media as the Don on any big decisions. Despite the Godfather consigliori is a rank just below the "caporgimes" and there never has been a non Italian consigliore.

Boffin
British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”
Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
