Close but no cigar

When you come close to something but don't quite get there.

Just short of success

This phrase originated in the 1920's. Fair grounds would give cigars away as prizes. Prizes were more aimed at the adults then vs. children like they are now. The fair workers would shout out "close but no cigar".... The first written documentation of this word appeared in the 1930's and then became a common phrase.

You finish second in a race
A friend asks how you did
You tell them "I finished in second place, close but no cigar"

Cedarville, NJ

Cedarville, NJ aka "Skeeterville" is a shit-hole located in Lawrence Twp aka " Lawless" Twp in cumberland county New Jersey. It's shitty hall is run by part time employees that won't even live in the town they work in. The scoundrel members who dictate their whimsies upon the townsfolk are made up of egotistical ass-holes owning business interests in the area. " Skeeterville" is swarming with mosquitoes and any other type of insects that bite. Its the type of place that if you blink while driving you already went thru it and has more hunting clubs than women.

A young couple from Illville, NJ were looking to buy a home and their realtor mentioned there were homes available in Cedarville, NJ to which the buyers commented, " Awesome, it sure would be nice living in a town with no cops."

A fast walk. The act of walking quickly from coaster in coaster in cedar point to beat those who are simply walking. Cedar point speed is the fastest speed you can get around the park since running is prohibited.

Girl: "Why are you running?"

going out for cigarettes

A popular euphemism for a parent (usually the Dad) walking out and abandoning their kids/family, where the abandonment takes place under the cover of a harmless, non-suspicious errand like going to get cigarettes.

Last time I was my Dad I was 3; he told us he was going out for cigarettes and he never came back.
