I'm fairly sure this was Homestar's failed mimicry of Strong Bad deleting e-mail in the Strong Bad e-mail episode where he leaves and Homestar comes into the room and cannot figure out the word "deleted".

When you put yourself in an unnecessary situation or position causing hardship to yourself that you could have easily avoided with the easiest of solutions already known to you, or if you had of just used your head.
Also if someone else puts you in that situation or position

-If someone borrows your diesel truck and fill it up with gasoline to save 20 cents a litre, you have been Bassetted
-If you bring a knife to a gun fight you have Bassetted yourself
