A form of torture which is supposedly 'optional' for any uk 16-18 year old. However it is most likely said 16-18 year olds are forced, sorry, 'persuaded' into sitting these exams which they are clearly going to fail. Said failed exams are then followed by hundreds of retake's until finally said teenager can get high enough grades to get into any uni which will take them after which they will be - you guessed it - forced to do more coursework, sit more exams, and so on and so forth through life.
Person 1: What the hell are A levels?
Person 2: You mean you werent forced into them by your parents/teachers/both?
Person 1: Oh no, I'm not 16 yet, but believe me when I am, I will be forced to take them
Person 2: That blows.
Person 1: Yup
(and so the boring conversation continues)

As the poppers rose thru their nostrils and cleared any sign of cellular life in the brain, the thought of euphoria; of life without illusion emerged they exclaimed, "I'm on a Level!" Then w/o warning the mood dropped and they looked around to see nobody left at the party ☹️ - Dillon

British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”

Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.

Pee Calculus

When you have to pee in a movie but don’t want to miss anything, and must do the following mental equation: will the amount I have to pee cause enough discomfort to diminish my attention capacity for the remainder of the movie to an extent which is greater than the amount of the movie I would miss by making a mad dash to the restroom.
I saw Satantango last night, wonderful film but by the 5th hour I had to start doing pee calculus.
