The Sopranos

An HBO TV series that focuses on Mafia chieftain Tony Soprano's blood and mob family. Amazing acting, great writing and stories. It's still my favorite TV show and always will. The show is notorious for it's abrasive use of profanity, shocking violence and nudity/sexuality. Certainly not for kids under the age of 17.
I love The Sopranos! Can't wait for season 6, which airs in early 2006. Quite a wait. I take it that the crew is on hiatus.

the sopranos

A HBO series based on the New Jersey based DeCavalcante crime family. A crime family that was always looked down upon by the five families from New York.
One day FBI agents were listening to a tap on some DeCavalcante soldiers and they started talking about the sopranos, talking about if its about them and how good of a show it is.

the sopranos effect

when you watch the first episode of a show and begin obsessively watching it, sometimes learning all the actors names and trivia about the show.
Guy 1: Yeah, i just watched 8 episodes of The Wire in one sitting.

Guy 2: You’re under the Sopranos Effect.

The Jersey Shore/Sopranos Reasoning

When you act or say something like an Italian and your excuse for it being ok was that you watch The Sopranos or The Jersey Shore
Person 1 - whatta ya mean you forgot to pick up the tickets whatta you stunad

Person 2 - Stunad, what?

Perosn 1 - its ok I watch the sopranos

Person 1 - oh the old The Jersey Shore/Sopranos Reasoning

the tony soprano

The act of getting an awesome and excruciating anal raping and getting killed or "whacked" afterwards like tony soprano would do!
Dude 1: "Where's my money?"

Dude 2: "Gimme some more time dude, please!"

Dude 1: "You have 2 hours to get my shit or Ima call Luigi to "Tony Soprano" your ass!"

Dude 2: "oh shit, not the tony soprano! Ill get your money Gino"

The word 'flag' as pronounced by people with thick Belfast accents. The term is a perfect encapsulation of the disproportionate and overblown reaction to the removal of the Union Jack (as in 'de fleg') from above City Hall in Belfast. Where previously it had flown for 365 days per year, it is now flown on 17 designated days of the year - in line with many other British cities.

The event caused a portion of the Protestant community ('fleggers') to make international pricks of themselves as they proceeded to wreck the fucking place, claiming it was another erosion of a 'British' identity they perceive to have been under attack since the horrifying spectre of equality reared its head in Northern Ireland.

The word 'fleg' - and indeed 'fleggers' - fittingly describes a section of humanity unconcerned with knowledge, reality or the vagaries of the English language. Like America's tea-baggers they are ruled by instinct, fear and paranoia with a side dish of rampant bigotry and startling ignorance of the world around them.
"Wat de fuck like! The taigs got de fleg took down! Let's wreck de fuckin place! No surrender!"

"De fleg has been took down! Before ye know it there'll be a united Ireland! Attack Short Strand! God Save The Queen!"

To take something small, that doesn't quite qualify as a theft. Probably from the Danish "skæv" or the Dutch "scheef", both of which are pronounced similarly, meaning "askew, or not quite right'. To change an item's ownership without permission, but only something small and of little worth.
"I skeefed an apple off the neighbor's tree." "I skeefed some chips outta your bag when you looked away." "Don't skeef my chair when I go to the bathroom."
