brit shalom

An alternative to traditional Jewish circumcision, where a pomegranate is symbolically cut instead of the baby boy. During a brit shalom the Jewish newborn male is given a Hebrew name and welcomed into Jewish life.
My nephew's parents are proud Jews but didn't want to circumcise their son, so they had a brit shalom instead. Everyone cried — except the baby!

sha·lom (shä-lm, sh-)
interj.
1. Used as a traditional Jewish greeting or farewell.

2. Peace

3. A name, which usually belongs to a particular type of person. You will find that Shaloms are generally tall. They often do not show their emotions easily, but when you look deeper you will see they have great depth. Although they aren't always introverts, it is common for them to be more quiet and withdrawn. They are often found to have a very sweet caring side, and easily make people feel loved. They often end up acting as a sibling to those around them. They are known for being sweet and caring friends who are generally very patience with the people they love. Although they do get upset, they generally do a good job of controlling their temper. They tend to be very logical and excellent in debates. It is common for them to show a great love for music.

Shaloms generally make great friends, and if you find yourself blessed with one you should hold on to them.

British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”

Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
According to the boffins downstairs, the murderer used a serrated blade.

Pee Calculus

When you have to pee in a movie but don’t want to miss anything, and must do the following mental equation: will the amount I have to pee cause enough discomfort to diminish my attention capacity for the remainder of the movie to an extent which is greater than the amount of the movie I would miss by making a mad dash to the restroom.
I saw Satantango last night, wonderful film but by the 5th hour I had to start doing pee calculus.
