An underground genre of terminally online music that tries to emulate mostly, but not exclusively, EDM of the early internet (myspace era nightcore, trance, happy hardcore, etc.) but with a distinctly heavy hit of lofi distortion over some, most, or all of it, giving it a hypnagogic and/or nostalgic feel. It may be contextualized as a descendent of the glitchbreak (breakcore revival) and HexD scenes that evolved in the late 2010's/early 2020's, which sextrance often borrows tropes from.

I listened to a sextrance station on soundcloud.
The DJ threw in a sextrance song into the middle of their set and I was there for it.

Sextrance is a subgenre of electronic music, specifically based on the Trance genre, which started at the start of the lockdown and was born on Spotify in 2021 thanks to artists Purity Filter, Type R, Exodia, and many others. , particularized thanks to its very nostalgic atmosphere, sextrance is a very popular genre among trance fans

Sextrance 

sextrance is a niche subgenre of Hard trance typically associated with trance music that has a lot of filter, and a cassette type of sound to it. It draws inspiration from other genres such as, Surge, Frenchcore, Hardcore (More Specifically, Freeform Hardcore), Jungle & Breakcore.

It was also popularised by Purity Filter, Exodia and sienna sleep. However it should be mentioned that Sextrance is basically HexD, which stems past the original release dates of the first ‘sextrance’ songs. It was found in the late 2010’s with artists associated with rap collective Reptilian Club Boyz & the group Hexcastcrew.

Sextrance Typically consists of hard kicks, dreamy atmospheres and pads, snares and cymbals. It has often had a mix of the ‘trance’ and ‘Breakcore’ side to it throughout it aswell. It should be mentioned that some sextrance producers don’t follow this style and go for a more chaotic and more emotional approach to it, rather than the traditional way.

Sextrance 

Sextrance is a more recent derivative genre associated with trance music and other subgenres of electronic dance music. It is, however, most associated with hard trance music. Sextrance songs are characterized by their fast tempo (with the songs usually being 160-200+BPM), strong synths, pulsating tones, compressed, bitcrushed, and distorted sounds. Tracks are either really long or really short.

The term "Sextrance" was originally coined as a joke by musical artist purity://filter as a tag to describe their album Imago, released in December 2020, as well as a mix they made in 2022. The term itself was presumably intended to be ironic, so Sextrance doesn't have any sexual connotations despite its name. Although it can be ;)

It started being adopted by other similiar musicians, and it quickly attracted a cult following thanks to the Dismiss Yourself label, known for publishing several underground and experimental songs that push the boundaries of music genres. However, Purity Filter does not take credit for the creation of Sextrance, and prefers it to be attributed to other artists who picked up the idea, like Sienna Sleep or Exodia.
