a totally awesome word made up by Whitney and Kylie. The intent of this word is to make fun of a girl who refers to herself as "scene". This girl is lumpy and thinks she is cool. she is obsessed with her looks and likes to take pictures of her ugly face

Scenesters encapsulate the sub-culture of a particular musical genre. One heavily relies on aesthetics and sartorial image to signify adherence to a particular scene. Scenesters of the post-modern era heavily rely on pastiche, imitation and revival. For scenesters, fashion is the most obvious sign of adherence to a sub-culture or musical genre. The history of the scenester image is rather rich. Perhaps more strongly for some and less for others, the scenester image encompasses not only the evolution of 20th century music, but also the deeper, underlying sociological change in culture and humanity by the inevitable force of globalisation and technological change. Scenesters are not only those who enjoy certain genres of music with the company of their common peers. The decadent scenester image is also attributed by the hedonistic lifestyles embraced by disillusioned individuals in response to political and cultural conflict and change, circa 60-80s. Scenesters are often labelled today as pretentious and self righteous. Central to the scenester image is the culture of elitism. This has caused the subjugation of various scenesters to mockery, critique and hatred. Different scenes follow by their often beliefs and principles, which conflict with other scenes or mainstream culture. Scenes gives individuals a sense of belonging to a clique. In western society today, the scenester image has been quickly adopted and marketed by corporations to sell and accumulate monetary profit. Some see this as the disintregration of the scenester image, as much of it is too brutally contrived by the consuming masses, absent of understanding or meaning.

Get the scenesters mug.I worked at spencer's gifts in my local mall for a year. In this time I could not help noticing the increase in young teens who seemed to be incapable of combing their hair. It became clear that this suit o-punk/ harajuku style of dress was the new trend.
This started me on a obsessive mission to find out what the heck a scene kid/ scenester actually is.
So through extensive research I've come up with the following conclusive facts:
1. Jeffree Star and his gang (Audrey Kitching, Hanna Beth, etc.) are the only true "Scenesters". They took they're new found (Japanese pop) style with them to all the hotest clubs a parties in Hollywood. They got famous for being at every party and having more myspace friends than Tom.
2. Jeffree Stars makeup skills and the fashions Audrey brought back from Japanese modeling/fashion arena is what makes up the style we know today as "Scene".
3. The music really has nothing to do with this pop culture movement.
4. Emo/ Indy/ Alternative kids may identify with the style of dress but the way they classify themselves makes them fundamentally anti-social which is the exact opposite of a scenester.
5. Scensters are obsessed with being the center of attention and the life of every party but they like to look cool and aloof while doing so.
These are the only trends and consistencies that exist in respect to the Scene Kids phenomenon. lots of wikipedia, youtube, twitter and buzznet were my sources.

Google image Harajuku Scenester and Scene Kids. You'll find that though the American version is somewhat understated by comparison it's essentially the same thing. As the good book says "there is nothing new under the sun".
Why Don't Scensters wash their hair?
Scenesters don't really know how to wear extensions.

Get the Scenesters mug.The teenagers between the ages of 13 and 18 who live in town and never miss a local gig, and thrive on the metal scene. They often have a dress code that consists of band T-shirts that they may never of heard of (eg. the ramones), often matching flannies, messed up 'grunge' hair, skinny or ripped jeans, and of course converse. They're attitudes are very poser, and often with the motto 'if you don't look like us you ain't hardcore'. They love sitting in franklin square, smoking and giving dirty looks. As I said before, they love local gigs whether they know the bands or not, because we are so musically starved in Tasmania. They're are also emos that hang around and group together, but they usually only attend when bands like 'circle of blood' are playing.
Tasmanian Music Scenesters are a vast majority of the teenagers who have made town thier home.

Flannie mate: Like, cool. Did you see the lead singer of that band?? Omg, he was soooo hot!! I like stole his shoes and he though it was sooooo funny! Hey do you like my hair today?
Flannie girl: Yeah, it's soo totally grunge!!

Possibly me: Whats your faviourite band atm?
Kid: Kooks.
Me: Enough said.
