1.a. A false declaration assuring that one will or will not do something; a sarcastic vow.
b. A verbal disguise to 'promise'. Something promissed never happens; one must refrain from writing promiss to go unnoticed.
2. Indication of something favorable to never come; have no expectations having been promissed to.
3. Destruction of future excellence or success: a player of great promiss. A professional miss. E.g. Fernando Torres.
