Protextion

The psychological defense mechanism of projection (taking something of ourselves and placing it outside of us, onto others, which can be positive or negative) as applied to text messages, emails, and social network chat windows. The resulting social phenomenon is countless misunderstandings leading to conflict and embarrassment in interpersonal relationships and in professional settings.
Angela and Charles were texting back and forth. When Angela said she was "hot", Charles, through the psychological process of protextion, placed his internal desires for Angela onto the text and interpreted her text to mean she was aroused, when really she was actually hot because it was just a damn hot day.
