pinyin

Standard Chinese spelling system using Roman alphabet. Literally translates as "spell sound". In modern Chinese education, children are taught to read and write pinyin before learning hanzi (Chinese characters).

If it weren't for pinyin, there would be no way I could ever learn how to speak Chinese by reading it.

King of Wishful Pinking

A term given to the guy you see who is always talking to girls when he is out, but none of them are sincere in their interest of sleeping with him. He can commonly be found in the friend zone buying drinks for the women around him.

Friend 1: Geez man, there goes Sean again talking to Tina. He needs to just give it up.

Friend 2: First it was Katie, then Jen, and now Tina? Sean is the King of Wishful Pinking.

Used to describe a dead person or animal as a way of convincing somebody that the corpse is not, in fact, dead.

First used by Michael Palin in reference to a dead Norweigan Blue parrot in the famous Monty Python Sketch.

"...And when I bought it not half an hour ago, you assured me that its lack of movement was due to it being tired and shagged out after a long squawk."
"It's probably pining for the fjords."
