Pixies
This isn't a very neutral or encyclopedic summation of the Pixies or their influence, but it's hard to write objectively about this band, perhaps one of the greatest alt. rock outfits ever to grace a stage, before the genre became just another mass-market joke.
Their music captivated not only what remains a fiercely loyal fan base, but a generation of musicians who sought to keep the flame alive when infighting drove the band to split in 1992. Perhaps the bar had been raised too high, because none of their successors, even those who achieved far more mainstream recognition, could quite match the quirky, catchy, enigmatic presence which still exists in those 15+ year-old recordings.
Thankfully, the Pixies are alive and well today after reuniting in 2004, though Frank Black was recently quoted as having disavowed any plans to ever record again with the group.

Cell Phone Pixies
Cell Phone Pixies are mischievious creatures who live in your phone. When you are not paying attention, they will magically call India, spam votes for someone on American Idol, and try to download a movie to your iPhone. When you get $45 usage fees on your next bill, all you have to do is call customer service and say you never ever used your phone to do that and they will believe you and reverse the charges.
Customer: "There's no way in hell I went over my daytime minutes! I never go over! It must have been the cell phone pixies."
Agent: "I fully trust you and will take your word for it. I'll reverse the fee right now! Just call us back any time those pixies fuck with your phone and we'll take care of it for you. Don't bother getting for a plan with more minutes so you're only paying $5 more per month rather than $200!"

Pixies
One of Nirvana's quoted influences, having a similar self destructive, downbeat feel that personifed the Grunge movement in the early 90s. The Pixies were a little more colorful and violent sounding than Nirvana and had a good female vocalist on some tracks.

West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
