This isn't a very neutral or encyclopedic summation of the Pixies or their influence, but it's hard to write objectively about this band, perhaps one of the greatest alt. rock outfits ever to grace a stage, before the genre became just another mass-market joke.
Their music captivated not only what remains a fiercely loyal fan base, but a generation of musicians who sought to keep the flame alive when infighting drove the band to split in 1992. Perhaps the bar had been raised too high, because none of their successors, even those who achieved far more mainstream recognition, could quite match the quirky, catchy, enigmatic presence which still exists in those 15+ year-old recordings.
Thankfully, the Pixies are alive and well today after reuniting in 2004, though Frank Black was recently quoted as having disavowed any plans to ever record again with the group.

1. From the first time I heard "Monkey Gone to Heaven", the Pixies became my favorite band.
2. Alex from "A Clockwork Orange" might say that the Pixies' music is "gorgeousness and gorgeosity made flesh."

One of Nirvana's quoted influences, having a similar self destructive, downbeat feel that personifed the Grunge movement in the early 90s. The Pixies were a little more colorful and violent sounding than Nirvana and had a good female vocalist on some tracks.
The Pixies are Surfer Rock, but their style is from Psychedelic to Punk to New Wave

Though she was the smallest of the group of women, her beauty and style made her the most noticeable. A true pixie.

A legendary underground band that consists of Frank Black (vocals/guitar), Joey Santiago (guitar), Kim Deal (bass), and David Lovering (drums). They formed in Boston on 1986, and after releasing five albums on their label 4AD, they disbanded in 1993.
The Pixies are the most influential pioneers of the late '80s alt/rock movement, and effectively blazed the path for groups like Nirvana, Radiohead and Pearl Jam to rise to superstardom.
In 2004, The Pixies have reunited which is indeed, very good news for music.

The Pixies are co-headlining the 2004 Coachella festival with Radiohead. This will be the first time they have ever performed together in more than a decade.

Pixi is a cheerful, weird, but a little sad on the inside girl. While a little neurotic and hot headed, she is funny and a good (if not annoying) friend! She loves to talk and is also a cat lover. A slightly chubby girl, she loves caticorns drawing, and all thing fluffy! She has big dreams and her favorite pastime is playing videogames with her friends.
