A Philly suburban town that is about 15 minutes away from Philadelphia and is the heart of Montgomery County. This town is known for its invention of the “Zep” sandwich and was founded in 1812. Along with this the Norristown area is a very ethnically mixed town with an Italian, Black, Jamaican, Mexican, Puerto Rican,
Irish, and Polish dominancy. The section of Norristown with the highest crime rate is known as the “West End” where a heavy population of blacks, Mexicans, and other minorities live and since 2000 there has been a major increase in the Mexican population. Norristown’s
government type was a Mayoral System until 2003 when Mayor
Ted LeBlanc was kicked out of office. The
government type since then has been a Municipality System. Although given a bad reputation by neighboring towns, Norristown is a pretty
chill place. The cops are always responsive and
cool and everyone in Norristown knows each other. It is home to the Elmwood Park
Zoo which has been a great community effort to Norristown and is also home to many people including Mike Piazza, Jaco Pastorius, and Winfield Scott Hancock. The bad side to Norristown is that it has become a slight haven for criminals from Philadelphia and the most harmful part is the whole west end of Norristown. However every community in Norristown is
tight nit and teens spend their days sitting on porches, getting drunk, rollin up, mixing beats and
music, and going to the In And Out market and the 7-11 to just have a good
time.
