1. an overarching thematic connection existing between all objects within a particular class, category, or set

2. a property of chaotic systems wherein hidden structures are found to exist all scales once they've been detected at the macro-scale; "I had to zoom out to find the meson, but it's obvious now how it all fits together."

Meson exists at all levels of dynamic systems, but only becomes perceptible retroactively once the system reaches a point of sufficient complexity (known as crossing the meson threshold).

Concepts like "vibe," "aura," "soul", "personality," "oversoul";, "ghost in the machine", "hive mind", and "God" can all be thought of as expressions of meson interpreted at different thresholds.

A being becomes conscious when it crosses its own meson threshold. They might describe the experience as the sudden realization that their entire life, and indeed, the whole history of the universe, has lead them to this exact moment.

The meson threshold is similar to the Buddhist concept of Satori (the sudden realization that brings illumination). Meson can be thought of as referring to the quality and character of the illuminated being.

Meson does not make any claims about its own virtue; any and all value judgements are left up to the interpreter.

It is possible for a being to exist in the world both before and after the meson threshold has been crossed.

The Meson of Set refers to a special expression of meson that includes every possible class, category, set. and object. The Meson of Set is essentially uninterpretable/paradoxical, since nothing exists outside it to interpret it.

The Meson Institute is a secret institute for the insane conducting various experiments on the human brain. Various lobes of the cerebellum may be lobotomized or have small devices implanted to stimulate the region in particular. To date, researchers have learned that the implanted devices can be stimulated via remote control to induce a wide variety of delusions and fantasies, thus vastly increasing our understanding of the human brain. Those committed to the Meson Institute are considered completely beyond recovery and will never be released due to the clear and present danger they present to society.

The judge has ruled the defendant to be criminally insane and has committed him to the Meson Institute for Insane for life in order to advance our understanding of the serial killer's brain.
