Meson exists at all levels of dynamic systems, but only becomes perceptible retroactively once the system reaches a point of sufficient complexity (known as crossing the meson threshold).
Concepts like "vibe," "aura," "soul", "personality," "oversoul";, "ghost in the machine", "hive mind", and "God" can all be thought of as expressions of meson interpreted at different thresholds.
A being becomes conscious when it crosses its own meson threshold. They might describe the experience as the sudden realization that their entire life, and indeed, the whole history of the universe, has lead them to this exact moment.
The meson threshold is similar to the Buddhist concept of Satori (the sudden realization that brings illumination). Meson can be thought of as referring to the quality and character of the illuminated being.
Meson does not make any claims about its own virtue; any and all value judgements are left up to the interpreter.
It is possible for a being to exist in the world both before and after the meson threshold has been crossed.
