Have you eaten rice yet? 

The phrase ‘have you eaten rice yet?’ is a social pleasantry used between friends and acquaintances along the same lines as saying ‘how are you?’ or ‘how’s it going?’ A person may respond, ‘eaten already’ or ‘not yet’. The phrase is another way of asking ‘have you eaten yet?’, but if the reply is ‘not yet’ there is every chance the two friends will end up eating together even if it’s just a quick snack.

A dialogue between two friends :

Boy: Have you eaten rice yet? (Typical greeting)
Girl: Yes, I’ve eaten. (Expected reply)
Boy: Where are you going? (The standard opening)
Girl: Over there! (Reply)
(Also a greeting couched like a question that requires no answer.)

All I have in this world is my name and my balls. — A translation from the Cuban Spanish saying : “Todo lo que tengo en este mundo es mi nombre y mis juevos.” This is a statement of ambition and a desire for “THE COME UP” — meaning an ascension in status and power. It’s the oppositional statement to “Started from the bottom and we’re here; started from the bottom now the whole teams’s here” — which is a statement of a successful “come up”

All I have in this world is my name and my balls entered common parlance through the movie Scarface and is one of its most oft quoted lines. It’s amazing that as of 2023 C.E. this famous sentence has not been entered into the Urban Dictionary. Well, all I have in this world is my name, my balls, and my ability to write. And it is in that spirit — the spirit of THE COME UP — that I submit this definition.

Experts are warning AI could lead to human extinction. Are we taking it seriously enough?

On May 31st 2023 we could have stopped it. We knew we could have stopped it; but, we didn’t.

And, at some point “Skynet” will become “self aware”.

And while we’re at it, if we ever find any extraterrestrial life forms, we shouldn’t bring it onto a ship; or bring it to planet earth.

I’ve seen the movies. These things never end well.

If you don’t have a seat at the table; you ARE the menu — the American political reality that proves REPRESENTATION MATTERS!!!!

Another version of this saying is “If you don’t have a seat at the table; then you are on the menu.” Meaning: there are a lot of people who are going to get rights, privileges, and tax cuts at the expense of front line workers and people living on the margins.

This is most easily seen in areas where both gerrymandering and redistricting are used to disenfranchise minority voters.

Another area where this is seen is in the backlash against a woman’s right to choose. As of September 9th 2023, the young women coming of age in my family have fewer reproductive and healthcare options than did the generation that crossed into womanhood ahead of them.

Representation Matters and if you don’t have a seat at the table you are on the menu; indeed, if you don’t have a seat at the table you ARE the menu!
