Shorthand for the word "function". Typically used in a mathematical, computer programming, or engineering sense, it can also be used in other contexts.

Mathematics: "Note: relearn trig fxns..."

Computer Programming: "Instead of creating a global variable, create a private variable with accessor/modifier fxns."
