Conflumer 

A word to explain life as a consumer trying to live consciously in a society that isn't set up to easily do so.

As consumers, we can use purchasing power to make the 'right' ethical decisions but this can often feel confusing, especially if trying to maintain a lifestyle that’s normal to you. Everything seems to be a trade-off.

Targeted advertising, misinformation & sneaky slogans are sending conflumers in circles!

I'm a conflumer: I want to explore the world footprint-free but I have limited annual leave and so my only realistic option is flying.

I'm a conflumer: I want great taste but my chosen brand is only offered in plastic.

I'm a conflumer: I recycle all the plastic that I use...but I didn’t realise plastic can only be recycled several times before eventually ending in landfill.

I'm a conflumer: I want to cut back on my water usage but a garden full of flowers makes me happy.

I'm a conflumer: I have cut back on eating meat but I have accidentally increased the number of jetsetting vegetables in my diet.

I'm a conflumer: my diet is vegan but I’m still wearing leather shoes.

I'm a conflumer: I want to support local businesses but my budget doesn't stretch past supermarket.

I'm a conflumer: I’m trying to switch to shop better but delivery is expensive & slow.

I'm a conflumer: I use my purchasing power to shop ethically but I don't have a clear idea of the industries & ethics I’m supporting through my pension investment.

I'm a conflumer: I want to easily reduce my footprint on the world but the information I need to assess the long term net impact of my purchasing decision simply isn't available to me & don’t have time to research every detail.

I'm a conflumer: I do not wish to leave my footprint on the world but it seems impossible not to without majorly changing my lifestyle.

A snafu of epic proportions; the most completely fucked-up thing ever. A portmanteau of "conflagration" and "clusterfuck".

Throwing screaming babies into the pen full of rabid pit bulls seemed like a good idea at the time, but it ended up being a complete conflusterfuck.
