Complesult

NOUN. A comment that begins like a complement, but ends in an out right insult or leaves the recipient of the comment wondering if that was a complement or an insult.

Hey, that's a cool outfit- I mean, I would never wear it, but..... (Thanks?) (She's complementing your outfit AND shaking her head at what a dork you are.).

Started as a complement, ended as an insult or non-complement-huh?.... COMPLESULT.

Or: at a party Ooh! Your boots! They're so . .. interesting. Where did they come from? Outer space? ("What?" Begins as a complement, end as an alienating "what?" Was that a complement or an insult?).

Complisult

When one makes a statement to another that is part compliment, part insult.

Popularized by the NBC show Community.

Nurse: He'd like to see Annie next...

Jeff: You know what? No. He'll see Jeff next.

*Gets up to Leave*

Nurse: Wait, you're not suppo-

Jeff: Or what? You'll do twice the work of a doctor for half the pay?

*Leaves Defiantly*

Nurse: ... Thank you?

A statement which starts as a compliment and ends with a subtle, or at times not so subtle, insult.

MO: MFR is absolutely right, that's twice in ten years.
EMM: Great compinsult MO!
MFR: PNM is great at throwing darts, he hits MO's arm every time.
PNR: That compinsult don't confront me.

A compliment that can easily be mistaken for an insult OR a compliment that is intended to be an insult. Usually said in a sarcastic tone and uses one's positve attributes to patronize and or demeen.

You look less fat than ususal.

It is a compliment and an insult at the same time. Can be like a no offence call. It can also use sarcasm.

complinsultment

a statement which on the surface seems to be a compliment, but has an insult buried in the middle of it ... it must consist of three parts: the initial compliment, to put the listener at ease ... the second part slips in an insult, catching the listener off-guard ... and the third part closes with another compliment, leaving the listener a little confused and wondering what just happened

"You look very nice today. That's a hideous shade of green, but it looks pretty good on you." ... an insult, buried between two compliments, is a complinsultment
