LDCs stands for Less Developed Countries. Also seen as Least Developed Countries. 47 countries were listed as LDCs as of 2018. Seen as less derogatory than the term Third World Country. An argument for transition from LDCs to “First/Second World” is that the inflation of the economy will lead to more stability and higher standards of living.

While many correlate progress with economic development, this should be questioned. For example, if the desire to increase agricultural development or other commercial development in LDCs is justified to burn down la selva, then this is not progress.
