Jack Tripper Syndrome

A situation in which two or more parties believe to have a mutual understanding of the subject matter, but unknowingly are addressing two independent thoughts or conclusions.
Direct from Three's Company:

Mr. Furley is suffering from Jack Tripper Syndrome and is standing outside the bathroom and eavesdropping while Jack and Chrissy are installing a shower curtain.

Jack Tripper: Okay, Chrissy, I'll get in the tub with you, then we can get it on.
Chrissy: Get next to me, I'll show you what to do.
Jack Tripper: This isn't exactly the first time I've ever done this.
Chrissy: Maybe so, but girls are better at this than boys.
Jack Tripper: Come on, Chrissy. A little less talk and a little more action, okay?
Chrissy: Okay, you do your part and I'll do mine. I don't think it'll reach!
Jack Tripper: Of course not, you've got to unfold it first!

Jack Tripper

Pulling a "Jack Tripper" describes a situation/conversation whereas 2 or more parties are talking - or overhearing - different subjects, but don't realize it. The misunderstanding is usually rife with sexual innuendo. This type of comedy exchange was used extensively in the 80's sitcom "Three's Company", hence the name.

Day tripper

The female version of a rake.

A rake (or, by extension, a day tripper) is someone who leads someone else on romantically, without actually following through with a serious relationship.

The term "day tripper" was coined by The Beatles.
She's a big teaser; she took me half the way there, yeah...

Back when I lived in upstate new york

A meaningless, unimpressive, self-serving introduction. An indicator that the story about to be shared will be pointless and dumb.
Back when I lived in upstate new york, I also had to park on the street - on two occasions, we got enough snow, mixed with just the right plowing, that my car was lifted off the ground from so much snow being jammed underneath it.

Sister: This meeting was to discuss the rough draft of my essay, where we discussed the subsidiary questions I added in my rough draft. We also discussed the relationship between my main title and the real-life situations I chose to use in my essay. We discussed the structure of my essay as well, specifically the Math AOK section and how it relates to the contradiction of the title. This second meeting was particularly helpful in discussing the implications of my essay claims and how to apply the title across various areas of knowledge. There were many sections of the essay that could have been cut down in wordiness and the ways of knowing required further and more in-depth analysis.
