slim pickings

few choices, in general. Possibly, no choices at all (understatement). Pickings = the things you have available to pick. Slim = thin, few, small. Also slim pickens, slim pickings.

I've been looking for a job for months! Since the layoffs, it's been pretty slim pickings.
