noun. A special state of smugness experienced by a Scrabble
player who is either winning or has recently had a very high-scoring word on the board.
Unlike
normal smugness, Scrabble Smugness is notoriously difficult to hide and even statements such as "I was lucky that time" or "It'
s just the tiles" will do nothing to reassure the opponent(s) that there is no smugness.
Typically Scrabble Smugness
will manifest itself as a peculiar grin, and is accompanied by feelings of superiority and an over-estimation of one's intelligence. In many cases, Scrabble Smugness
will induce feelings of Scrabble Rage in the opponent(s).
Player 1: Damn it, you're always winning.
Player 2: (modestly) I was just
lucky that
time. It's the tiles really...
Player 3: Like fuck it is. And don't pretend to be coy - you have the worst
case of Scrabble Smugness ever.
