Get the Bolivar Shagnasty mug.Referring to a person by a name they made up instead of their real birth name, especially when referring to them by this new name is meant to give legitimacy to the idea that the person is no longer who/what they actually are. For example, if a person is male but wants others to think of him as a female, he might change his name to Caitlyn, and demand to be called Caitlyn, demonizing anyone who calls him by his actual name. He wants you to stagename him. If you do not, he will say that you are "deadnaming" him, a term used to manipulate people into feeling guilty for being honest.
