prospertunity

Pronunciation:
pros-per-TOO-ni-tee (prŏs-pər-too'nĭ-tē)

Part of Speech:
Noun

Expanded Definition

Prospertunity is an opportunity that includes the missing elements necessary for meaningful advancement, long-term success, and personal prosperity. Unlike a standard opportunity, which merely presents a possibility, a prospertunity provides the practical tools, resources, support systems, education, access, guidance, stability, or encouragement needed to transform possibility into achievement.

A prospertunity recognizes that many people do not fail because they lack ambition, intelligence, or desire, but because they lack access to what is needed to move forward. It bridges the gap between potential and progress.

A prospertunity does not simply offer someone a chance; it equips them to make the most of that chance.

The concept emphasizes empowerment over charity, sustainability over temporary relief, and growth over mere survival.

A true prospertunity typically includes one or more of the following:

Access to previously unavailable resources
Education or skill development
Mentorship or guidance
Removal of barriers to success
Long-term growth potential
Increased self-sufficiency
Empowerment rather than dependency
A pathway toward stability and prosperity
Distinction from Opportunity

Opportunity:

"Here's a door."

Prospertunity:

"Here's a door, the key, directions to where it leads, and the tools you'll need once you get there."
"The apprenticeship became a prospertunity when it provided training, mentorship, and a pathway to a stable career."

"Access to affordable housing, education, and job placement turned what could have been a simple opportunity into a life-changing prospertunity."

West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
