nigger ring

A form of phone call screening in environments where caller ID is not accessible. This is achieved by making a call, hanging up after one ring and then calling right back. The recipient of this call would normally ignore all other incomming calls until he hears the single ring indicating that he should take the next call that comes in.
Example 1: A man who is sneaking behind his woman to meet other women will know to answer the phone when he hears the "nigger ring".

Example 2: A teenager who should be in school when he is at home taking the day off. If he answers the call of a relative or family friend, that could prove to be incriminating. However, if another "school-skipping" friend wanted to reach him by phone, the nigger ring is an excellent way to avoid being caught.

Example 3: The deadbeat roommate who begged you for more time on the rent money and promised to work 12 hour shifts has really been laying on your sofa and watching your TV while YOU are at work. And so you decide to check up on him to see if he really went to work. He is using the nigger ring to avoid your call, but you are thinking one step ahead of him and you catch him in the lie.

Back when I lived in upstate new york

A meaningless, unimpressive, self-serving introduction. An indicator that the story about to be shared will be pointless and dumb.
Back when I lived in upstate new york, I also had to park on the street - on two occasions, we got enough snow, mixed with just the right plowing, that my car was lifted off the ground from so much snow being jammed underneath it.

Sister: This meeting was to discuss the rough draft of my essay, where we discussed the subsidiary questions I added in my rough draft. We also discussed the relationship between my main title and the real-life situations I chose to use in my essay. We discussed the structure of my essay as well, specifically the Math AOK section and how it relates to the contradiction of the title. This second meeting was particularly helpful in discussing the implications of my essay claims and how to apply the title across various areas of knowledge. There were many sections of the essay that could have been cut down in wordiness and the ways of knowing required further and more in-depth analysis.
