iPLEDGE

A program created by the FDA whose primary goal is controlling the distribution of Accutane, a medication used for treating acne. Patients, doctors, and pharmacists are required to register with the program in order to prescribe the medication.

The program was created to prevent birth defects if taken during pregnancy. It has not significantly reduced the exposure of pregnant women to Accutane, but major criticisms of it are difficult compliance regulations, privacy intrusion, and difficulty navigating its site.
Kyle: Hey! How's life going?
Chris: Awful. I was prescribed Accutane because of my terrible acne. I had to go through registering with this crappy iPLEDGE program, and I also have to have bloodwork done every month.
