Estonia is a smallcountry in northern Europe that feels and would like to be nordic, but actually belongs to the baltic countries south of the baltic sea. Due to its size and since just about 1.4 million people live there (for reference: New York has 8.4 million inhabitants) , somthing that has been dubbed the "estonian phenomenon" can be witnessed here. The term describes that everyone practically knows everyone or at least someone who knows them. This makes gossip equally more interesting and more dangerous, since the person you are gossiping about will almost certainly hear about it. Sometimes Estonia feels like a big family gathering of a country where even someone who seems to be a random stranger has most likely some kind of relation to you.
"Oh hey, I know the girl who just delivered our food... that was an awkward interaction"
"How do you know her?"
"Its just a case of estonian phenomenon, my classmate used to work at her families store and she used to play soccer with my second cousin. Did you know that she broke up with her Boyfriend?"
Any bicyclists who uses the road and when convieniant, rides on the sidewalks and crosswalks.
After miles of following a bicyclist at a slow rate of speed, I was finally able to pass, but then, I got stopped at a red light. And the bicyclist passed me on the sidewalk as if he was a pedestrian. But NO! He was a pedal-estrian.
OK for starters i say that i am an estonian and i read both definitions, one by "eestlaneeeee jeee" and the other by "NobodySpeshul". One of them is clearly Russian and the other Estonian. They represent 2 different extremities. The truth is somewhere in between. I know Estonians are happy with their little country, i'm not a Russian so not sure about them. But i say let's not fight, and if we hate each other so much and can't be friends, then we should at least leave each other alone. Thanks.
Russian: "Estonians suck goddamn idiots Russia FTW!"
Estonian: "Stupid Russians hope they burn in hell, Estonia is the best!"
We should stop acting like kids. Both nations.
Nickname given to bales of marijuana thrown overboard or out of airplanes. Origin is reportedly from members of the US Coast Guard in the area of Southern Florida.
A sunburn or suntan focused on the left arm. It is caused by the left side of the body being the only half that gets exposed to sunlight while driving. Presumably, it would be located on the right side of the body in countries where they drive on the left side of the road.
I had a trucker's tan after driving for 10 straight hours on a sunny day.
British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”
Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
