1) To use up goods or services, either by the consumers or by the companies that produce the goods or services. Thus it leads to waste and reduction of valuable resources. For the consumer, it can lead to stress, debt, obesity, waste, lack of space, etc.
2) The #1 thing that got us (America) into the economic mess that we are in right now. We only got ourselves to blame in this one.
Wow, it's the new $12,000 diamond iPod case! I must get it, even though I'm two months behind my four-bedroom home, about to lose my Lexus SUV, and have already maxed out three of my credit cards! Mass consumption...

This second meeting was particularly helpful in discussing the implications of my essay claims and how to apply the title across various areas of knowledge. There were many sections of the essay that could have been cut down in wordiness and the ways of knowing required further and more in-depth analysis.
