Mainly used in the Dominican Republic to refer to a person without culture, has a poor education, is classless and (or) has cheap tastes. (Does not necessarily refer to a person of a low social class) It’s a common insult.

Llegó presumiendo el carro y creyéndose la gran cosa, pero solo lo quedó como un maldito chopo.

(He arrived showing off the car and believing it was a great thing, but he only looked like a fucking chopo.)
