Easterner: "Good Lord, it's so fucken hot in the Southwest."

Father: "Hey Kids we're going on vacation to see the American Southwest! We'll be visiting the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, the mountains of Colorado, the deserts and cacti of Arizona, the heat of Nevada, the mormons of Utah, the aliens of New Mexico, the cowboys of Texas, the fun of California and...and...it'll be fun!"

Kids: "Oh cool we're going to Vegas then! Woo hoo!"

Father: "Huh?"

Southwest

An ultra low cost large passenger airliner. It has a history of settings records from being the most profitable to the most unprofitable. It sets the profitable records by skimping on contracts and doing nickel and dime techniques to give their workers the worst employment of their lives. Then on December 2022 it set the record for the most unprofitable airline in the history of aviation, losing 1 billion usd in 4 days. They did this by skimping on investments for frontline employees and constantly short staffing people for years. I would avoid them as much as possible. This should remain in the history archives for records.
Hey Heard you got stranded by Southwest? Yeah they took my bagged, apparently they thought I gave it to them for free.

Southwest Philly Floater

A shot in basketball where a smaller offensive player floats the basketball over taller defenders who swat helplessly at air attempting to block it. Also known as a teardrop or floater, the term was coined by La Salle guard Tyrone Garland, who honed the craft of this shot as a youth on the rugged streets of Southwest Philly. He ended Ole Miss's Sweet Sixteen dreams by dropping the SW Philly Floater on them for a game winner in the 2013 NCAA Basketball Tournament, making him an instant Philly hoops legend.
OH SNAP! LA SALLE JUST MADE THE SWEET 16! TY GARLAND DROPPED THE SOUTHWEST PHILLY FLOATER ON 'EM! MARSHALL HENDERSON AIN'T GOT S$*% ON US!!

Southwest no look

The most thorough pose for the camera in the history of man. A pose originated in Southwest Philly where you willingly look away from the camera while someone is taking a pic of you.
Your southwest no look went platinum on the gram.

Southwest Residential Area

Area of Umass Amherst (Zoomass) populated by the students who most likly get drunk every weekend. Most female students from this area are stuck-up assholes who are picky with the men they talk to but will go home with just about anyone by the end of the night.
We're going to party in Southwest Residential Area.

Southwest Airlines

The one airline in America with the best record for being on time and not losing luggage. The airline that delays and cancels flight less often than any other. Also the airline with the most friendly, helpful and pleasant customer service. And it is also the most profitable airline and one of the few that didn't milk bankruptcy protection, sticking it to people after bilking all of its creditors.
I had to fly to Phoenix. I took Southwest Airlines because I knew that they would be on time, unlike the others.

Southwest Airlines

A bargain airline in the United States. Known for the bare essentials on their flights and they must be doing something right because they are the most profitable airline and have never had to file for bankruptcy. Part of the reason is because Southwest bought and stocked up on fuel reserves back in the 1980's when Jet fuel was a lot cheaper. They are also know NOT to charge you a ton of hidden fees. An example: allowing your first two checked bags to be free. There is also no first class or coach sections and there is NO assigned seating just boarding groups A, B, and C. Many US based companies prefer to send personal on domestic business trips VIA Southwest because of the amount of money they save, dis-spelling the "white trash" stereo type.
Self centered people cry about Southwest Airlines because they don't have TV's on their aircraft. I on the other hand am amazed that an airline can get me from Los Angels to West Palm Beach in roughly 5 hours without losing my luggage and at an amazing price. Thank you Southwest, YOU ROCK!

British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”

Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
